The modern village in socially inviting physical settings
The study village is a transformation and addition to a four-lane half-timbered house from the 18th century. 56 new apartments have been erected here, both shared and single apartments for students and other young people who want to be part of a larger community. The new buildings and the old farm create a small village inspired by traditional Danish road cluster villages where intimate streets and squares arise in the meeting between the farms, in this case between the new and the old.
Small, cosy studio apartments
Each home has an open facade, with views and access to green areas as well as a more enclosed facade towards the village's common square and charming footpaths. All apartments have a kitchen with common dining area, living area, hallway, toilet and shower as well as a cosy loft with sleeping space and walk-in closet. The Study Village is located close to nature, forest and lake, and a short distance from Viby Square (Viby Torv), the old commercial school, fitness and shopping.
Common room and communal dining
The community for the tenants is important and it is thought into all our projects. The Study Village's collective focal point is the old courtyard and a stable wing converted into a communal house with table tennis, long tables, kitchen, laundry and a lounge area with TV. Here the tenants can meet for communal dining, games or a Friday beer.
How we encourage social behavior
We have set up small plant boxes so that the tenants can grow their own vegetables. Most tenants cross their paths when they either have to cross into the common house or simply move between the small passages.
Sustainable materials
With the vision of sustainability, great emphasis has been placed on material choice and transparency, where new materials are displayed on equal terms with the farm's original constructions and materials. The intention has been to take advantage of the unique robustness found in the existing farm's simple typology and material usage.
